Bismillah,

One fascinating aspect of the homeschooling community is the abundance of blogs created by homeschooling parents and educators. These blogs offer a wealth of resources, insights, and personal narratives that not only provide valuable guidance but also foster a sense of community among homeschoolers. As an avid reader of homeschooling blogs myself, I have come to appreciate their unique contributions and why they hold a special place in my heart.

Diversity of Perspectives

One of the most compelling aspects of homeschooling blogs is the diversity of perspectives they offer. Every family approaches homeschooling differently, and these blogs reflect a wide range of educational philosophies, teaching methods, and lifestyle choices. Whether you’re interested in classical education, unschooling, or eclectic homeschooling, there’s a blog out there for you. Exploring different perspectives allows readers to gain insights into various approaches and find what resonates best with their own values and goals.

Practical Tips and Resources

Homeschooling blogs are treasure troves of practical tips, resources, and lesson ideas. From curriculum reviews and homeschooling hacks to organizational strategies and activity suggestions, these blogs offer invaluable support to homeschooling families. Whether you’re a seasoned homeschooler looking for fresh ideas or a newcomer seeking guidance, these blogs provide a wealth of information to help on the homeschooling journey.

Real-Life Stories and Encouragement

Beyond the practicalities, homeschooling blogs often share personal stories, triumphs, and challenges from real-life homeschooling families. Reading about the experiences of others can be incredibly inspiring and reassuring, especially during moments of doubt or uncertainty. These blogs create a sense of camaraderie and solidarity among homeschoolers, reminding us that we’re not alone in this journey. Whether it’s celebrating a breakthrough moment in a child’s learning journey or offering words of encouragement during tough times, these stories remind us of the joys and rewards of homeschooling.

And you know what? Despite the challenges and occasional overwhelm, I still find myself drawn to homeschooling blogs time and time again. There’s something captivating about reading the experiences and insights of other homeschooling families. It’s like peeking into a window of diverse lifestyles (busy body, much?) and educational philosophies, each offering its own nuggets of wisdom and inspiration. Plus, there’s a sense of camaraderie in knowing that there’s a whole community of homeschoolers out there, sharing similar joys and struggles. So, why not keep reading? Each blog I explore adds another layer to my understanding and enriches my homeschooling journey in ways I never anticipated.

Community Building and Support

In addition to offering valuable insights and resources, homeschooling blogs play a vital role in community building and support. Many blogs host forums, social media groups, and virtual meetups where homeschoolers can connect, share ideas, and offer support to one another. This sense of community is invaluable, especially for families who may feel isolated or disconnected from traditional schooling networks. Through blogs and online communities, homeschoolers can forge meaningful relationships, seek advice, and find encouragement from like-minded individuals who understand their unique challenges and triumphs.

Accessible Resources: Free Printables and Curriculum Lists

In addition to offering valuable insights and personal experiences, many homeschooling blogs provide an array of free resources to support homeschooling families. These resources often include free printables, such as worksheets, lesson plans, and educational games, which can supplement your homeschooling curriculum and add variety to your lessons. Moreover, some blogs curate lists of free curriculum options, providing a valuable resource for families looking to homeschool their children without the financial burden of purchasing traditional curriculum materials. This accessibility and affordability make homeschooling more attainable for families from all walks of life, further enriching the homeschooling community and fostering a spirit of collaboration and support among homeschoolers

Making Sense of Homeschooling Blogs

You are entering a world full of ideas and advice with homeschooling blogs. But with so much information, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. That’s why it’s important to approach them with a plan.

Remember, not everything you read will be right for your family. Everyone’s homeschooling journey is different, so focus on what fits your needs and goals best. You can organize the helpful tips and resources you find by subject or topic. This makes it easier to find what you need when you need it.

Also, don’t forget to think critically about what you read. Not everything might apply to your situation, so trust your instincts and check the facts if something seems off.

By taking a simple and thoughtful approach to homeschooling blogs, you can make them work for you and your family’s unique journey.

My takeaways from homeschooling blogs in 2018

Homeschooling blogs are not just sources of information; they are vibrant communities that offer support, inspiration, and encouragement to homeschooling families around the world. I can personally attest to their impact, as I first delved into reading homeschooling blogs in 2018.

Muslim Homeschool Blogs

Among the other sources of homeschooling blogs I enjoy reading were Umm Khadeejah, Umm Assaad Homeschool and Umm Maimoonah. To be honest, the Muslim homeschoolers I follow often rotate among these three Umms. I first found Umm Khadeejah through her insightful blog. which offers free resources and shares her activities along with worksheets and curriculum suggestions. These valuable printables led me to invest in her 16-week “Homeschooling with Confidence” course before COVID hit. Although I didn’t fully understand it at the time, I re-watched her audio recordings in 2024. I also became a founding member of her parenting membership, Mums Unstuck, though I had to give it up to cover my psychology treatments tailored for ADHD.

Snce then, I have discovered many more homeschooling blogs from secular sources viewed through an Islamic lens.

The Path to IGCSE vs. Strength-Based Learning

Earlier this May 2024, I joined “Innovative Homeschooling Strategies for Busy Moms” (I read “Busy Brains” LOL). Umm Maimoonah’s course provides a pathway to IGCSE and underscores the importance of certification as part of the system. I am torn between following my children’s interests and strengths-based approach, and pursuing IGCSE. I have unique needs child who thrives on their interests, and I thought, “Why not?” However, I’m still unsure and have labeled my approach as “Road to IGCSE”.

Before making any purchases, I benefited greatly from the wealth of free downloads offered by Umm Maimoonah. These resources helped shape my curriculum choices and provided valuable insights, ultimately guiding me toward the paid materials and the homeschooling course. Ultimately, Allah knows what is best for us, and we trust Allah in the process and what is in store: whether it will be IGCSE or short courses following their passions.

Building a Library with Umm Assaad

As for Umm Assaad, I was building a library for my daughters and used her books for read-aloud sessions. I have all of her books except for the recent chapter book she has for teenagers. Anyway, in shaa Allah, I will get it eventually. Umm Assaad offered a free kindergarten program that covered nearly a year of Islamic studies, which has been incredibly beneficial in my journey. I benefited from her free printable and resources before deciding to invest in purchasing books.

Gratitude for the Homeschooling Guides for ADHD Children

For those considering homeschooling for the first time, these blogs offer a wealth of resources, diverse perspectives, and real-life stories that make them a joy to read. As I continue to explore homeschooling blogs, I am constantly reminded of the passion, dedication, and creativity within this community. I am especially grateful for the insights I gained from Selena in her post on 31 Tip for Homeschooling Kids with ADHD, which have been invaluable on my journey. All praise is only for Allah, and I appreciate the support and guidance I’ve found in this homeschooling community.

Future Plans

In shaa Allah, I plan to compile a list of additional homeschooling blogs from secular sources for you to explore. However, my time is currently occupied as I focus on routines related to my health, planning healthy meals to complement my stretching, and managing homeschooling. Additionally, I have some pending posts from my previous website that still need to be published here. Once things settle down, I look forward to sharing this valuable resource with you

Update (4 October 2024): : The compilation of additional homeschooling blogs from secular sources has already been published under the title “Inspiration from the West: Blogs That Give Me Ideas for My Homeschool Management”. In this post, I shared my key takeaways and insights that have inspired my approach to homeschooling, offering a unique perspective that might resonate with you.
